New York City: NYC Traffic Violations Bureau (TVB) — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island
How It Works
One flat fee. We quote you a flat fee up front — no hourly billing, no surprises. The fee covers everything: court appearances, negotiations with prosecutors, motions, and follow-up.
No court appearances needed. For most traffic infractions, we appear on your behalf and handle the entire case without you taking time off work or traveling back to the court. You stay home. We go to court.
We know your court. Every court in New York has its own prosecutors, judges, and local practices. An attorney who regularly appears in a particular court knows how that court operates — what reductions are available, what arguments work, and how to get the best outcome. We handle tickets in courts across all 62 counties and appear regularly in the busiest traffic courts in the state.
Why You Should Hire a Lawyer Now — Not Later
Under New York law (CPL § 100.25), you have the right to demand a supporting deposition from the officer who issued your ticket. If the demand is made properly and the prosecution fails to provide it within 30 days, the ticket must be dismissed. But the demand must be made early — the clock starts running from the return date on your ticket. The earlier you call, the more options we have.
Common New York Traffic Violations
We handle every type of traffic ticket issued in New York, including:
Speeding (VTL § 1180) — 3 to 11 points depending on speed over the limit. The most common ticket in New York and the number one reason people call us.
Cell phone / texting (VTL § 1225-c / § 1225-d) — 5 points. More than most speeding tickets. Two cell phone tickets within 18 months puts you at 10 points.
Red light (VTL § 1111) — 3 points. Do not confuse a police-issued red light ticket with a red light camera ticket. Camera tickets carry no points. Police-issued tickets do.
Stop sign (VTL § 1172) — 3 points.
Disobeying a traffic control device (VTL § 1110-a) — 2 points. One of the most common tickets on Long Island and in NYC.
Following too closely (VTL § 1129) — 4 points.
Unsafe lane change (VTL § 1128) — 3 points.
Failure to yield (VTL § 1140-1146) — 3 points.
Failure to signal (VTL § 1163) — 2 points.
Failure to stop for school bus (VTL § 1174) — 5 points. Heavy fines and potential license suspension.
Move Over Law (VTL § 1144-a) — 3 points. Failure to yield to emergency vehicles or move over for stopped emergency and hazard vehicles.
Railroad crossing violation (VTL § 1170) — 5 points. Especially serious for CDL holders.
Reckless driving (VTL § 1212) — 5 points. Misdemeanor. Up to 30 days jail on a first offense. Criminal record.
DWI / DWAI (VTL § 1192) — Criminal charges with potential jail time, license revocation, ignition interlock requirements, and massive insurance consequences. Contact us immediately.
Suspended / revoked license (AUO) (VTL § 511) — Misdemeanor or felony depending on degree. Jail time possible. Do not handle without a lawyer.
No insurance (VTL § 319) — Minimum $150 fine, $750 DMV civil penalty, registration revocation for at least one year.
No license (VTL § 509) · Unregistered vehicle (VTL § 401) · Expired inspection (VTL § 306) · Equipment violations (VTL § 375) · Improper passing (VTL § 1122-1128) · Improper turn (VTL § 1160) · Wrong way on one-way (VTL § 1127) · Unsafe backing (VTL § 1211) · Improper U-turn (VTL § 1161) · Seatbelt (VTL § 1229-c)

Speeding Tickets
| MPH Over Limit | Points | Fine Range (1st Offense) | Fine Range (2nd in 18 Mo.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 – 10 | 3 | $90 – $150 | $180 – $300 |
| 11 – 20 | 4 | $90 – $300 | $180 – $450 |
| 21 – 30 | 6 | $90 – $300 | $180 – $450 |
| 31 – 40 | 8 | $90 – $300 | $180 – $450 |
| 41+ | 11 | $90 – $300 | $180 – $450 |
All speeding fines are subject to a mandatory NYS surcharge of $88 – $93. School zone speeding carries higher fines: $180 – $600 for a first offense and $360 – $750 for a second offense within 18 months.

| Stop sign violation | 3 |
| Improper passing | 3 |
| Unsafe lane change | 3 |

NYS Driver Assessment Fees
If you accumulate 6 or more points within 18 months (measured by date of violation), the DMV will bill you a Driver Assessment fee — separate from and in addition to any court-imposed fines:
| Points (within 18 months) | Total Assessment (paid over 3 years) |
|---|---|
| 6 | $300 |
| 7 | $375 |
| 8 | $450 |
| 9 | $525 |
| 10 | $600 |
| 11+ | $675+ (plus automatic license suspension) |
Three speeding convictions within 18 months = 6-month license revocation — regardless of total points. This catches many drivers off guard.
These penalties add up fast. A single 21-mph-over speeding conviction means 6 points, up to $300 in fines, $93 in surcharges, $300 in Driver Assessment fees, and a potential insurance increase of 20% – 40% for three years. The total cost of a guilty plea can easily exceed $3,000. Fighting the ticket is almost always the better option.
Don’t try to explain your ticket over the phone — just take a photo of the front of the ticket and text it to (631) 678-8993. We will review it, tell you exactly what you are facing — points, fines, insurance impact, and whether your license is at risk — and give you a free case evaluation on the spot. No forms to fill out. No waiting on hold. Most people hear back within minutes.
