Client Portal Access — Clio for Clients
Your secure connection to Ronald S. Cook, P.C. Upload documents, view shared files, send secure messages, and stay organized — all in one place.
When you become a client of our firm, if needed, we will provide you with access to a secure online portal called Clio for Clients. The portal gives you a private, organized space to communicate with the firm, share documents, review important files, and stay informed about your matter — all without relying on regular email.
This page explains what the portal does, how to get started, how to upload documents, and what to do if you run into a problem.
Why We Use a Secure Client Portal
We use Clio for Clients because it keeps your information more secure and more organized than regular email.
Upload Documents Securely — Send tax returns, identification, court papers, and other files through an encrypted connection — not through regular email.
View & Download Shared Files — When we need you to review or sign something, we share it through the portal where it is easy to find.
Send Secure Messages — Message the firm through the portal instead of sending sensitive information by regular email.
Review Invoices & Payments — If applicable, view billing statements and make payments directly through the portal.
Everything in One Place — All your case documents and messages are organized in a single location — no more digging through emails, texts, and voicemails.
Avoid Unsecured Email — Regular email is not encrypted. The portal provides a more secure channel for sensitive legal documents and communications.
The portal is provided by Clio, one of the most widely used legal technology platforms in the industry. It is available from any computer, tablet, or smartphone.
How to Activate Your Client Portal
When we open your matter, if needed, we will send you a portal invitation by email through Clio. Here is how to get started:
Step 1. Look for the invitation email. The email comes from Clio on behalf of Ronald S. Cook, P.C. It will be sent to the email address you provided to the firm. Check your spam or junk folder if you do not see it.
Step 2. Click “Open secure portal.” Open the email and click the button labeled “Open secure portal” (or similar wording from Clio).
Step 3. Enter your email address. Use the same email address where you received the invitation. The portal will not recognize a different address.
Step 4. Check your email for a confirmation link. Clio will send a separate email with a secure login link. Click that link to access the portal.
Step 5. You’re in. Once inside, you can view documents and messages the firm has shared, upload your own documents, or send a secure message.
Good to know:
Clio for Clients does not require a password. Each time you log in, Clio sends a one-time secure link to your email. This link is valid for one hour.
If the link expires, go to clients.clio.com, enter your email, and request a new one.
You can also download the Clio for Clients mobile app (iPhone or Android).
The app supports Face ID, Touch ID, and fingerprint login.
How to Upload Documents to the Firm
When we ask you to provide documents — tax returns, identification, bank statements, court papers, or other records — the portal is the safest and most efficient way to send them.
Step 1. Log in to the portal at clients.clio.com or open the Clio for Clients app.
Step 2. Open the correct matter. If you have more than one matter with the firm, make sure you are viewing the right one.
Step 3. Go to the Documents section of your case.
Step 4. Tap or click “Send document.” You can attach files from your computer. On the mobile app, you can also scan a paper document with your phone’s camera, take a photo, or select a saved file.
Step 5. Select your files and add a brief message if needed — then tap Send.
Troubleshooting & Frequently Asked Questions
If you run into a problem with the portal, check here first.
I did not receive the portal invitation email.
Check your spam, junk, and promotions folders. The email comes from Clio, not directly from our firm’s email address, so some email providers filter it. If you still cannot find it, contact our office at (888) 275-2620 or Docs@RonCookLawFirm.com and we will resend the invitation.
The login link expired.
Clio’s secure login links are valid for one hour. If the link has expired, go to clients.clio.com, enter your email address, and click “Continue.” Clio will send you a new login link.
I do not remember which email address I used.
You need to use the same email address you gave to the firm when we opened your matter. If you are unsure which address that was, contact our office and we can confirm or update it for you.
I cannot upload a document.
Make sure the file is in a common format such as PDF, JPG, PNG, or Word (.docx). If you are using the mobile app, make sure the app has permission to access your camera and files. If the problem continues, try logging in through a web browser on a computer instead.
My file is too large to upload.
Try reducing the resolution of scanned images, splitting a multi-page document into smaller files, or saving as a PDF instead of a high-resolution image format. If you are still unable to upload, contact the office and we will arrange an alternative method.
I uploaded the wrong document.
Contact the office as soon as possible. Let us know which document was uploaded in error and we will address it. Do not upload a corrected version without letting us know first.
Should I email documents instead of using the portal?
We strongly prefer the portal for all document uploads. Regular email is not encrypted in transit and is more vulnerable to interception. The portal provides a secure, encrypted connection. If you are unable to use the portal for any reason, contact the office and we will discuss alternatives.
Can I use Clio for Clients on my phone?
Yes. The Clio for Clients app is available for free on both iPhone (App Store) and Android (Google Play). The app allows you to upload documents, read and send messages, review shared files, and receive notifications. You can also set up Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint login for faster access.
Is the portal secure?
Clio for Clients uses encryption to protect your data in transit and at rest. Clio is one of the most widely used legal technology platforms in the industry and maintains security standards designed for law firm use. However, no system can guarantee absolute security. You should also protect your own email account with a strong password and, if possible, two-factor authentication, since the portal login links are delivered by email.
Does portal access mean the firm has agreed to represent me?
No. Access to the client portal does not, by itself, create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship with Ronald S. Cook, P.C. is established only when there is a signed retainer agreement or engagement letter between you and the firm. If you have questions about whether you have an active engagement, contact the office.
Who should I contact if I still need help?
Call us at (888) 275-2620 or email us at Docs@RonCookLawFirm.com. You can also use the contact form on our website. Our office is available during regular business hours and by appointment during evenings and weekends.
